Kinyonga Reptile Centre: Explore the Fascinating World of Reptiles

Just a 15-minute drive from Villa Umkhaya, the Kinyonga Reptile Centre is a must-visit destination for reptile enthusiasts. This center is home to a variety of reptiles, including crocodiles, lizards, and snakes. Guided by experienced handlers, you’ll have the chance to observe some of Southern Africa’s most venomous snakes up close, such as Black and Green Mambas, Boomslang, Mozambican Spitting Cobras, Puff Adders, and Vine Snakes.

The centre is owned by Donald Strydom, a renowned expert featured in nature documentaries on National Geographic and Discovery Channel. Donald’s passion for reptiles is contagious, and you might even have the opportunity to meet him during your visit. He’s always happy to answer questions and share his knowledge. During your visit, you’ll see reptiles in habitats designed to mimic their natural environments. Plus, you can even take a photo with one of the harmless snakes—a fun experience for both adults and children!

Kinyonga Reptile Centre: A Wildlife Haven, Not Just a Zoo

In addition to its role as a reptile sanctuary, the Kinyonga Reptile Centre also operates a critical service: capturing and relocating "problem" reptiles that pose a threat in human-populated areas. Donald and his team rescue and release over 300 animals annually, including snakes, lizards, crocodiles, tortoises, frogs, spiders, and scorpions. Once captured, these animals are brought to the center for care while a new safe habitat is identified for their release.

By visiting the Kinyonga Reptile Centre, you’re not only enjoying a unique experience but also supporting important conservation efforts to protect reptiles and their natural habitats.
