Villa Umkhaya is located within a private estate, just outside the town of Hoedspruit. 

• Drive

From Johannesburg you may wish to rent a car and drive to Hoedspruit. The journey is approximately 5 hours, without stops. However the route takes you through some beautiful scenery, so you may likely want to make some rest stops along the way. The town of Dullstroom, situated in the Steenkampsburg mountains is a great place to break up the drive. Be aware- South Africans drive on the left hand side of the road!

All major car rental companies have branches at OR Tambo airport. A 4-wheel-drive vehicle is not necessary, though you will need a HIGH-CLEARANCE 2-wheel-drive vehicle to enjoy the more rural roads near Villa Umkhaya. Be sure to also get a car with air-conditioning. GPS is available as an additional option on most rental cars. It is best to reserve a car online prior to arriving in the country.

• Fly

Would you prefer to fly? Airlink flies to Hoedspruit’s East Gate airport twice a day from Johannesburg (1u) and once a day from Cape Town (2.5u).  From the airport it's only 20min drive to Villa Umkhaya.

Car rental is available at the airport through Avis. You MUST reserve a car prior to landing in Hoedspruit, as this office is very small and may not have a suitable car available if you do not book ahead.
